Every year the world’s colour authority, Pantone, release their top colour trend predictions for the following season. The 10 colours selected for Spring 2017 have been inspired by the fashion collections that stole the show on the New York runways this Autumn. The colour selections are reminiscent of the hues that surround us in nature, with earthy tones and some vibrant primaries, and are your essential guide to colour this coming season. For the first time in 2016, two colours were chosen, Rose Quartz and Serenity, with the former pastel colour adopted almost everywhere in fashion, graphics, interiors and furniture design.
Pantone’s shortlist usually hints at what may be the official Pantone Colour of the Year for 2017, with ‘Greenery’ announced as the winner in December. If House Edit were to pick a winner, we agree that 2017 should be the year of Green, but we are opting for a darker shade of Green.
Try Fleetwood’s Dark Citron from their Pantone collection, another foliage-based green that conjures up our desire to connect to nature, a lush and fertile natural green shade providing the perfect complementary background to the more vibrant tones.
Everything from fashion to interior design trends are influenced by Pantone’s predictions, so get your green fingers out and get in on the trend of bringing your outdoors in.
For the subtle touch try this colour in your accessories (cushions, artwork, green foliage / succulents), or for the more daring try a leafy wallpaper, a full chroma kitchen, a painted console table or a deep green sofa. The dark greens really come alive when accented with the bolder hues of vibrant orange, yellow or blue and are gorgeous when pared with complementary greys and gold/brass accents.
